“How much will my teak deck project cost?” is one of the first questions yacht owners, captains, and managers ask us.
It is also a difficult question to answer from square footage alone. The final cost of yacht teak decking can change based on the type of work, deck layout, teak thickness, substrate condition, access, hardware, and the amount of detailed margin work involved. Still, when you are planning maintenance or a refit, you need a realistic starting point before arranging an onboard inspection.
That is why Teak Techs created a free Teak Decking Calculator. In less than a minute, you can enter a few basic project measurements and receive an immediate ballpark estimate for the teak work your vessel may need.
Why Yacht Teak Decking Costs Vary
Two decks with the same square footage may require very different amounts of material and labor. A large, open deck with straight planking is not the same project as a deck divided by hatches, hardware, curved margins, king planks, waterways, and detailed transitions.
The scope also matters. A deck that needs careful sanding is priced differently from one that must be completely re-seamed. Replacing several damaged planks is different from removing an aging deck, repairing the substrate, fabricating new teak panels, and completing a full installation.
Online price ranges often miss those details. Our calculator is designed to give you a more useful planning figure based on the actual category of work and the measurement that applies to it.
What the Teak Decking Calculator Can Estimate
The calculator covers five common yacht teak decking services:
New Teak Decking and Full Deck Replacement
Enter the total deck area in square feet to estimate a new teak deck installation, design-build project, or complete refit.
For a broader overview, see our yacht teak decking and refit services and our teak deck replacement cost guide.
Teak Deck Recaulking and Re-Seaming
Failed, separated, or deteriorated seams can allow moisture to reach the deck below. Enter the affected deck area in square feet to receive a ballpark estimate for professional teak deck re-seaming.
You can read more about the process on our teak deck re-seaming page.
Teak Deck Sanding
Sanding can remove surface weathering, level proud caulk, and restore a cleaner, more even finish when the teak has enough remaining thickness. Enter the deck area in square feet to estimate professional teak deck sanding.
Details on the process are covered in our teak deck sanding overview.
Damaged Plank Replacement
Cracked, lifting, worn, or delaminated planks may be repairable without replacing the entire deck. Measure the approximate linear feet of damaged planking to estimate the repair.
The repair process is described on our teak deck repair page.
Margin Board and King Plank Replacement
Margins, king planks, and other detailed border pieces require careful fitting and alignment. Enter the approximate linear feet involved to receive a planning estimate for replacement work.
You can also include more than one scope when your project involves a combination of services.
How to Use the Calculator
Using the tool takes only a few steps:
- Select the type or types of teak work your vessel needs.
- Enter the approximate square footage or linear footage requested.
- Add your contact and vessel details.
- Submit the form to reveal your ballpark estimate immediately.
Your measurements do not need to be survey-perfect. Approximate figures are enough to begin. After submission, a Teak Techs specialist personally reviews the information and can follow up within one business day to help confirm the scope.
How to Measure Your Teak Deck
For work calculated by square footage, measure the approximate length and width of each deck section and multiply them:
Length × width = square footage
For example, a deck section measuring 12 feet by 8 feet is approximately 96 square feet. If the deck contains several sections, calculate each area separately and add them together.
For triangular or highly irregular areas, a close estimate is fine. The calculator is intended to establish a ballpark, not replace an onboard inspection.
For plank, margin board, or king plank replacement, measure the length of each damaged or affected section and add those measurements together to estimate the total linear footage.
Photographs are also extremely helpful. Wide shots establish the overall area, while close-up images reveal open seams, worn caulk, damaged planks, fasteners, and possible substrate concerns.
What Can Change the Final Price?
The calculator provides a planning number, but several vessel-specific details can affect a firm quote:
Deck condition
Hidden moisture, adhesion failure, damaged substrates, or previous repairs may require additional work.
Teak specifications
Plank thickness, width, quality, and material requirements affect fabrication and material cost.
Layout and detail
Curved margins, king planks, hatches, waterways, joggles, and hardware increase fitting time.
Access
Vessel location, staging, tenting, dock access, and onboard work restrictions can affect labor and logistics.
Project scope
Combining removal, substrate preparation, fabrication, installation, caulking, and final sanding creates a different project than a focused repair.
Schedule
Yard periods, vessel movements, and time-sensitive completion dates may influence how a project must be staffed and sequenced.
These are the reasons a professional inspection and itemized proposal remain important before work begins.
A Ballpark Estimate First, a Firm Quote Next
The Teak Decking Calculator is a free planning tool, not a binding quotation. It gives you a practical place to start when setting a maintenance budget, comparing repair and replacement options, or preparing for an upcoming yard period.
Once we review your measurements, photographs, vessel details, and access requirements, Teak Techs can prepare a firm, itemized proposal for the confirmed scope. There is no obligation to move forward after using the calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Teak Decking Calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free to use and there is no obligation to book work.
Do I need exact deck measurements?
No. Approximate square footage or linear footage is enough for a meaningful ballpark estimate. More precise measurements and clear photographs can help Teak Techs refine the scope afterward.
Can the calculator estimate both repairs and full replacements?
Yes. It covers new teak decks, full deck replacement, re-seaming and recaulking, sanding, damaged plank replacement, and margin or king plank replacement.
Is the calculator result a final quote?
No. It is a preliminary ballpark based on the information entered. Final pricing is confirmed after Teak Techs reviews the vessel, deck condition, access, materials, and complete scope.
What happens after I submit my estimate?
Your ballpark total appears immediately. A Teak Techs specialist then reviews the project details and can follow up within one business day to discuss the next step or prepare a firm proposal.
